This 8-week intensive virtual workshop provides the tools, training, and mentorship for aspiring music journalists ages 13-17.
Every week, we will look at a different aspect of music-oriented writing in order to give you the foundation, information, and confidence to enter into the world of music journalism and share your thoughts and insights with the world.
From writing insightful music reviews, to conducting great interviews, to understanding the business side of journalism, we want to set you up for success.
We’ll also introduce you to industry professionals who will share their best tips.
8-week Workshop Overview:
Week 1: From Your Ears to the Page: Reviewing Individual Songs and Entire Albums
Week 2: The Concert Experience: How to Review a Live Show
Week 3: The Interview Part One: How to Prepare and Conduct an Interview
Week 4: The Interview Part Two - You’re Not Alone Anymore: How to Communicate with Your Subject(s)
Week 5: Beyond The Page: Music Writing and Interviewing for Podcasts and Radio. We’ll also discuss audio production
Week 6: The Music Biz: How to Find Opportunities and Submit Your Pitches for Articles to Different Media Outlets
Week 7: Get creative! - We’ll provide a blog space and you’ll make a music zine using your words and your new skills
Week 8: The Wrap: We’ll have a special last class, celebrating your completion, and we’ll discuss your future and next steps.

Eligibility: This program is open to girls, trans, and gender nonconforming persons ages 13 to 17. No previous journalism experience required.
